Fetching water from a distant source to fill the Gagri is no longer a challenge

Situation before project interventions

Manu B.K, an 11-year-old residing in Turmakhand Rural Municipality-1, Lachhi Sujeda, Achham District, is delighted to have access to water near her home. Her parents are Bam Bahadur B.K and Sunita B.K. Previously, Manu's life was quite challenging as she had to make a 30-minute uphill trek to collect water from Mainakhola (river) and carry it back in a 15/20 litre container. When there was a water shortage, it caused significant worry and difficulties for the family. Tasks like washing hands and face, laundering clothes, and taking baths became arduous, not even being able to focus on her studies, without a nearby water source. Now, with the installation of a tap in their home, Manu no longer has to wait for water from a distant source. She mentions that this convenience has made a significant difference in her life.

During menstruation, she no longer needs to venture out for hygiene purposes, saving her time and effort. The time she used to spend on fetching water and bathing has been reclaimed, allowing her to focus on her studies and assist her mother with household chores.

The family expresses their immense gratitude to Turmakhand Rural Municipality, USAID/Karnali Water Activities, and SEBAC-Nepal for their invaluable support in bringing accessible drinking water to their community. They are now content and relieved to have regular access to clean water at their doorstep.
